Your Name Your Price Cruise Request, Step by Step

The quality of the matches depends on the quality of the request. A good name your price cruise request takes five minutes to write and saves days of back-and-forth. Here is what to include, in the order our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise find most useful.

The Five Things We Need

  • Your number, and what it covers. “A total for two, including taxes and gratuities but not flights” is perfect. “Not too expensive” is not.
  • Who is going. Ages of children, anyone who needs an accessible cabin, and how many cabins you expect to need.
  • Your window. A month or a range of weeks is better than one fixed date, unless the date really is fixed.
  • Your must-haves. Two or three at most: a balcony, a particular region, a short flight, a ship with a water park.
  • What can bend. Say plainly which of dates, cabin, ship, length and departure port are open.

A Sample Request You Can Copy

“Two adults, one cabin. Our total is a fixed figure for the cruise including taxes, fees and gratuities; flights are separate. Any week from late April to mid-May. Must-haves: a window or balcony, and a warm-weather itinerary. Flexible on ship, sailing length (five to eight nights) and departure port anywhere in Florida.”

That request gives our advisors a fixed number, a clear boundary around it, two must-haves and four open levers. It can be answered quickly and honestly, and the matches will be comparable with each other.

What Comes Back

You will receive a short list rather than a catalogue: usually a few sailings inside your figure, each with a line on why it made the list and what it gives up. If the request is tight, one of the options may be marked as the best value just above the line, with the single change that would bring it inside — moving a week, choosing an oceanview instead of a balcony, or sailing a night shorter.

Every quote shows the fare with taxes, fees and port expenses, so you are comparing like with like. Our sister site Best Cruise Quote explains how to read each line of a cruise quote if you want to check our work.

Mistakes That Slow a Request Down

  • Naming a number without saying whether it is per person or for everyone.
  • Listing six must-haves; with that many, very little can flex.
  • Leaving out a child’s age, which changes cabin occupancy and sometimes fares.
  • Forgetting the cost of getting to the port, which can decide whether a sailing really fits.
  • Asking for “the cheapest” when what you want is the best cruise inside a figure.

Request Questions

Should I give a total or a per-person figure?

Either works, as long as you say which. A total for the whole party is usually clearest, because it already accounts for how many people share each cabin.

Will you only show sailings exactly at my number?

We show sailings inside it first. If something slightly above it gives a lot more, we will mention it once and let you decide.
